What is really living in your sofa cushions
Body oils, food crumbs, pet dander, sweat and dust mites — your sofa absorbs it all. Here is why a yearly deep clean is more than cosmetic.
A sofa is the hardest-working surface in most homes. We sit, eat, nap and sprawl on it every day, and the fabric quietly absorbs the evidence: skin oils, sweat, food crumbs, pet dander and the fine dust that settles on every soft surface. Very little of it shows — until you clean a single cushion and see the difference against the rest.
Under the surface, the same dust mites that colonise mattresses find a second home in upholstery, feeding on shed skin and leaving the allergens behind. Add spills that have dried into the padding and the odours they cause, and a “clean-looking” sofa can still be a real source of indoor allergens and stale smells.
Home remedies have limits. Fabric sprays mask odours without removing the cause, and supermarket shampoos leave residue that makes the problem worse over time. Our sofa and upholstery cleaning uses hot dry-steam and extraction to lift oils, dust mites and spills out of the fibre, sanitising as it goes — with no sticky film left behind.
The result is upholstery that looks brighter, smells fresh and is genuinely more hygienic, ready to use again the same day. For a family sofa we suggest a deep clean once a year; for holiday lets, before each season. Curious what it costs? It is on our price list, or you can send a photo for a free quote.
